The next Auditor of State will need to be an independent watchdog, with a demonstrated record of fiscal responsibility and tough-minded decisionmaking, in order to cut waste, fraud and abuse. And in the current times in particular, the next Auditor will be working with governments across the State that face challenging budgets, tough decisions on spending cuts, and the need for reform so they can do more with less in tough times. Candidate David Pepper’s record in office is one of grappling with these very challenges through fiscal responsibility, reform, and budget cuts—while candidate David Yost’s is the opposite. As County Commission President in Hamilton County:
This followed four years of balanced, bipartisan budgets David voted for while a member of Cincinnati City Council, where spending in that time was also under inflation (up only 1.6% between 2001 and 2005). In contrast, Dave Yost’s spending has exploded since he became Prosecutor.
